In the past 10 years that I’ve been a die-hard Jesse fan, I have learned to deal with some great films going unnoticed. While it sucks, it’s our jobs as fans to spread the word of the films and help get them noticed. So what I’m going to do is a “Movie of the Week” type deal, inspired by a similar feature my friend Fredrik introduced on his site, and I’ll be choosing one film per week to provide new facts and media you may have missed.

The first film is actually one of Jesse’s short films, “Hole in the Paper Sky.” When she was seen on set in January of 2007, fans quickly found out more of the mysterious project. Among finding out the plot…

Howard Ferp is a brilliant, misanthropic mathematics doctoral candidate. Just as he is about to complete his thesis and win the city-wide chess tournament, his carefully calculated life is turned upside down when he learns that his work study position has been eliminated. Forced to start a new job in the psychology department, Howard encounters two kindred spirits, his supervisor Karen and a doomed laboratory dog. Howard risks everything he thought important to save the animal and, in doing so, discovers his humanity.

… we also learned that Jesse’s new production company, Iron Ocean Studios, would be producing the film. It wasn’t until Summer of 2008 that it was announced the short film would be premiering at the 4th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival. After that it also screened at the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Flordia Film Festival where it won the Audience Award for “Best Short Film” and the Jury Award for “Best Screenplay.”

It was also a very “Biel” film, as it was dedicated to Jesse’s pup Tevvy, who passed away in 2008, and briefly featured Tina (dog) and Justin (brother). I really enjoyed this film, while I’ve only seen it a handful of times, it’s because I have cried almost every time I watched. If you’re an animal lover, it can be difficult to swallow, but Jesse’s performance is a great one. She’s funny, awkward, and compassionate, and with that “The Incredibles” looking bob wig, she is simply a blast to watch.

If you haven’t seen this one yet, don’t fret as it’s only $2.99 to purchase on iTunes! I’d highly suggest doing so.. you won’t regret it. Check out the trailer below and check out the photos in the gallery!
